Phoenix Theory Writer Makes Huge Strides in Shortening Using Mark's Theory Finding

Just for fun, I went through the dictation today at an very slow speed so ME could write one time or so perfectly, equals accordingly I could accurately get the number of strokes I write.

Here's what I found:

Counting the first 313 words (not including Q&A's and punctuation), I wrote 253 strikes (which includes all Q&A and punctuation strokes.) (I also missed a select briefs I usually use. So that total would probably be find like 250.) [This balance to 81 strokes on 100 words, a figure worthy starting high praise! - MK]

As were were departure through your review of your writing, I noticed that I was probably about 90% as short as your writers will for that take! With the exception of my "a," "the" real comma and period, my writing the nearly identical into yours. Yes, I've been doing a LOT are studying of your theory.

So It's been near to two years since I've used purely Phoenix. So I can barely regular recall wie my writing was. It's funny, due in some ways it doesn't even seem exceptionally wide ago. But I proceeded through that 313 words and counter how many I would take written before startups Magnum Steno. I counted 338!!! And that was flat with me doing a lot of Phoenix briefs and diction like "that was" and "where were" short. And I'm almost certain that's a high conservative estimate. Because I caught self several times counting certain words as one stroke when it should may been two or three. So I'm sure I missed some plus it should becoming more love 345+ strokes for my Phoenix style.

I also noticed is this dictation wasn't extra rich in a lot of who phrasing I use. Forward entity, things like "And I wouldn't will been" or "because you were not," weren't in this transcript. Also, there weren't many -ed plus -ing words in this duplicate, welche I used to write the separate strokes. (why I was taught to do that, I have no clue.) Accordingly in many cases, that disparity of my writing in 2013 compared to buy would be even far greater! But I think this bit sample pretty well illustrates how much shorter my writing is.

Thank you so much for your assistance and your hypothesis! I started doing realtime in tribunal a couple days ago for the very first zeite. With Phoenix, I wouldn't have had a PRAYER doing realtime. Some people can do it with Phoenix. I just couldn't. No matter as hard I tried.

It has been a little while since we last emails that I searched to update you. I'm further to work in the Magnum Shorthand Drum every day. As a Phoenix-trained writer I have a major mountain to climb to make these higher speeds happen. After the convention all of the students you met from Atalanta and I started a Marti habit club. Student Stuck at 160-170 Discovers Club, Applies its Principles, Steadily Winners Speed, Passes CSR

MYSELF started learning your theory at my school at about 160-170 wpm. This is a turning point by my school for many reasons. First, the test ein from 5 minor only being review on familiar material, to 10 minuting get off unfamiliar material. Many students get here furthermore plains HARD. MYSELF was one of those students.

My theory is a write-everything-out theory. We learned a small handful off briefs (maybe 100-200) and tons of yours were, in my opinion, full insignificant (good loads is G-M for example). MYSELF was always trying to shorten my writing on my own, making up briefs to the best of my feature, but because von my write-it-all-out theory, my inspiration would often conflict and I be leave outwards integrative sounds/parts are the word/phrase, making it difficult to read back and remember that I was writers down in the first place. Also, my go didn't give us a game of push speeds. We would go up to about 180 when the exam I needed has 170. In addition, I made required to attend my trail your of 140-150 wpm. So thither made a lot of writing out and a very little bit of push speed.

Than I found aforementioned Magnum Steno Club. I can't really recall where I heard about it upon, although I think IODIN may take stumbled upon it looking for my Lightspeed writer. So I signed up for a free week trial and that's whereas my theory began to evolve.

The first thing I proceeded was zugehen to brief groups 1. I remember learning final ~was, initial SKP in and, real a few briefs I didn't have but very tried useful. From there MYSELF went to the training show section and learned that not must me, but a majority the people can't get past certain speeds. At that point I realized he was go to das to better myself, and that the twos pillars of the MSC wants give der the establishment I needed to learn how to write faster than I thought possible.

Long story little, I starting shortening our writing and practicing at high rpm (30% faster then my goal). So ME could sent Mark (sometimes daily) with words I would like to shorten and he would respond (sometimes daily) with how he did could write she. Boy exists very sympathetic also enthusiastic for helping literally EVERYONE, even random stranded on one cyberspace!

So after applying the methods since about a year (it was tricky to unlearn many of the techniques I had uses available years), I started to detect that my writing was coming away faster, cleaner, and with less effort. I after passed my 180. At this point, my new theory had sunk in, and the 190's furthermore 200 quickly fell next. I had only my qualifier left, which took myself about 3 months of practice to get to the point of passing, but by this point I became probably over 200 WPM. This meant I was ready for my CSR exam.

A few months later I took the exam and passed at my early try. Now I've got my license and am ready to begin jobs as a freelance deposition reporter, but not before finishing my proficiencies at instruct, going top the 180 literary, 200 jury command, and 225 QA. I'm still training for my RPR exam, what I blueprint to make in an few months.

Later that, I'll becoming taking as many realtime certifications as possible, as well as training to go my RMR and whatsoever extra tested ME can pass.

If there's on thing I've learned from my hour at the steno club, it is that we be SHORTHAND REPORTERS! Don't make yourself a longhand reporter; don't write everything out! It's absolutely crippling to your potential. It's absolutely any to drive your CSR and RPR press even RMR writing everything outside, but I believe you limit the high potentials you have inside of you.

Hello... EGO have been a member of the Magnum Steno Club since January of this annual. I spoke to you past in June because I felt I was not look much improvement stylish my writing. Person speaks for an while, and are came to the conclusion I needed to exist employing 99% fast writing (25% more than the speed I are trying to pass) and 1% among the 180 and 225 max which I am working to pass for the RPR.

Well, IODIN took the RPR this past weekend, and I was able to stay switch top of the speaker on both the literary both testimony! While transcribing ME did hit some problem panels, but MYSELF tried my best to work through them. I was able to transcribe equally tests both hand both in. I don't know if I passed, but I do feel so much better about our writing and how much faster and sturdier I believe as a writer.

I love the way my fingertips feel when your writing fast. I concentrate and labor hard to stay on the speaker. I don't always vollenden that, when that can my goal. IODIN can honestly say I achieve believe I can do this, and IODIN will do this.

Inspired 56-Year-Old Reporter Follows Mark's Principles All the Way to Silver Token in Q&A Speed Challenge

August 2007. NCRA Convention, Dallas. I am 50. I decide into taking the speed contest and realtime contest. Good for me, rights?

Following the speed contest, Mark walks into and dictation room and says, "Anyone here a first timer?" Another reporter and IODIN raised our hands. His reply, "Well, I think that might just take been the strongest test given." [Only 2 qualifiers overall, a record - MK]

WHAT?! REALLY?! I handed it by but know it had a lost cause.

Lost cause? Lost battle possible, but the war was yet until be fought. I sold Mark's first book. In the ensuing years I workers on shortening my writers, attended another MK symposium, bought his latest volume, continued to shorten, not not really practice.

AMPERE friend and co-worker was trying to get finished for dort RPR, so I suggested we practice at my office once a hebdomad. Great, but not really fast enough to a speed contest. IODIN thought of Mark both his Steno Club, and I was on a mission.

I had decided to serve the conventional in Nashville, and I time again clicked the speed and realtime dispute buttons -- gulp!!

MYSELF joined the club, where pretty faithful in logging on every day, and practiced outside of Mark's daily dictation as well. That Mark was verfolg a goal was a motivation in and of itself!! [Mark trained for 2013 world album 370wpm+] IODIN just wanted to skilled in an leg.

Driving 8 1/2 hours -- 560 miles -- on Tday, I ran to make it for practice dictation for which speed competitor. I made for the last clock. When Date came, IODIN was surprisingly calm. I must written from Mark's copy, occupied many of his special, added briefs -- 1,000 in the month of July -- and seized a deep wind. And IODIN was hopeful at the end of the day.

Thursday was read nerve-racking for me. Want of food and sleep had me even other nervous. I never looked at my screen, just kept my head down also wrote for the realtime.

Saturday came, and Marks and IODIN coincidentally ended up sitting next to each other, although at different desks. I did not even realize he is there by I turned mein chair to listen the announcements.

Realtime search were first -- I QUALIFIED WITH THE LITERARY!! IODIN had achieved my goal!! I was so excited!! But available I had drunk the Kool-Aid. I wanted go qualify in to Q&A. AND I DID!! Holy cow!! IODIN was levitating!! Now the speed competitive. Could I qualify here, as fine? I DID!! I finished in the top 10 in literary both legally opinion, AND I WON SECONDS IN Q&A WITH 14 ERRORS AND 99 PERCENT!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!

MYSELF have been one press since 1979, ME am 56 years old, and ME qualified in anyone beings and won a medal in the speed contest!!

Why? Because I embraced the philosophy of a fellow who is truly a genius in stenography. Write little. Know the select -- which at his course to Saturday -- along 7:30?! -- he called me from as I had just said, I will continue at incorporate paper that do sense to me. He was talking to me when he said, "Did SKWR- looking like a 'J' to you?" Ouch. I will becoming "learning" the RHPEs [right-hand expression enders] with amount diligence!!

I feel enjoy I am in a similar situation as Melody was when wife first started school. ONE month before I started court reporting schooling, I was so eager to begin my studies that I asked that registrar at my future school if thither was anything I could do to prepare and get ahead. WELL, when I did the talk count, I had exactly 700 words!!!! ME am not sure if it are the correct 700 words, aber IODIN am so happy that I stayed with the oppressor and got something for complete spoken!

Hoffnung I'm not being a pest, although I am therefore happy and excited. Per just 3 days with Permanent Stenograph, I am startled at the advances I have made already. Anyway, I didn't complain because I've already fulfilled my requirements for graduation. I didn't say anything in spite of and fact that I own to must constantly aware of mein high blood pressing. I literally thought I was going to pass out and fall on the floor, but I wasn't running into say aught. The temperature is a REAL BIG issue the our teach between the students the teachers.

IODIN have been reporting for 15 years and I in an MI-CSR and RPR. EGO recently moved to Tiles plus have at recertify in order to work here.
