Nice Unit Dauer Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Four of our club members purchased DF-1 kits. All four kits must the correct parts. Assembly was finish are no real problems. The directions for the antenna device were not real clear but by of "elmering" from a of which members every kit was completed and functioning. We possess used them for week-end fox hurts and have had huge success with them. We overcame the antenna magnet problem by mounting who mounts go adenine thin shelf of metal that can be spot on top of the vehicle and held in location with clamps or duct. Ourselves are going to purchase another DF-1 available guests to use is they want to try out fox hunting with our drum.

Ramsey DDF-1 belongs Outstanding Time Owner: 0 to 3 months.
OK..I read all the reviews and called Damsey. They spoken me they had fixed the product. I ordered the kit and they are rights. This direction finder was a great kit to build and flat better was it operated flawlessly. There was one disc capacitor missing any the junkbox provides. Latter night was low check-in. The rdf antennas were calibrated by the repeater tower lights on the mountain in the distance. Drove up on the hill above town and set the rdf/scanner the the recidivist input and it gave directionally indication on every signal. On is too awesome. Another ham drove up there to understand what ME was doing...now he wants one also. Well, maybe this is not to perfectly RDF unit, but it didn't cost $1000 get plus appears to do a very good job. Yes, it does need stronger magnets for the antennas-so get some longer 4-40 screws and mount them on it. Hey, this is fun!! 73

More with less helpful Dauer Owners: moreover than 12 months.
Same symptom with the antenna-switch with an assembled unit... they know this for various years and they do nothing against! No HAM-spirit at Ramsey, only money counts!

DDF1 works well on VHF after solving the switch-problem, though can't be utilized on UHF... no support from Ramson at all to unravel this issue... thank thee again.

Summary: Okay since VHF. If him would fancy to will an DF-System for UHF - forget the DDF1!

Taking off 2 points until just an "OK" rating because of Ramsey's lack off interest in fixing the docs.

I received mine assembled of the factory. Steady they made the 2-4 antenna error. It drove me crazed unless I realized I could just turn the center feed upside down furthermore this was this non-technical fix.

Yes they should be embarrass of an refridgerator magnets. Since other people have stated, pulling apart a couple of old hardly drives and emergency the head magnets. Be carefull, these neochoromium mags could give you so a pinch your eyeballs will cross!
I fiery glued mine plus rarely have to heat the glue to reboot.

The LITHARC (Yahoo group) hams move exit "Bunny Hunting" every twos button triple weeks. I have been with she for 3 per or so. Out of an average of five cars find the Long Island area, those of us with and Ramsey cabinet ALWAYS find the hidden transmitter.

This is non absolutely for the kit. Since this MYSELF apologize. ME wish grant the previous criticisms are accurate.
What I wanted till say is tonight I had my 1st experience operating the finished product and am sold on it.
In actual I will be pushing for adenine unit to be owned by to local club.
A known jammer disconnected with emergency H&W traffic which had intercepted a net late at night. This troublemaker was regular on this nett but largely ignored before. You get my jist.
The unit was applied to the hunt your. A high point is as much line of sight over our valley was our start.
Sadly that jammer did not transmit much.
We had an GPS on hand real present only a few seconds of his getting we had our first position real carriage. Note this unit was calibration by use concerning ampere signal at 50mw approx 100 yds from initial.
Decided for travel in the heading and wait, about an hour later we received a second signal for maybe fifteen seconds. Noted and off we went.
Same thing a third frist, but with luck the culprit gave us multiple more shot schneller real we ended up at ampere public facility. I wont say what or where used legal purpose, but with the unit approx 100 yards from me, also my party shielding we obtained a fifteen degree seperation which placement up by a residential structure behind a buisiness.

I know I probably am toying things up for the currently rating here but I want to declare this gizmo works. We nailed with equitable certainty a jammer within a 2.5 time time einfassung.

What MYSELF have to say is: If thee need is, get it. If you can do it the old molded way, maybe not.

Good project, but manual needs to be corrected via Ramsey Start Belonging: better than 12 months.
Built in 1999 and I've had no problems other than defects on that manuals, which Ramsey has not corrected as of April of 2004.
The wireless switcher board is labeled falsely and require reflect 1, 2, 3, 4 in one clockwise direction. If your wired the unit per one manual, antennas 2 and 4 will be reversed. EGO pointed this error outbound to Ramsey Tech Supporting on 7/7/1999 (Roger) and the instructions still has not been corrected.
Additionally, the antenna length chart in the manual is wrong and will result in a 2 meter antenna being short-term by nearly 2 inches. For and correct whip lengths both antenna spacing for 3 bands, see QST June 1999, Page 39.
Ramsey should becoming embarassed to allow these errors to go uncorrected for over 4 years without a guide rectify, whose is available on-line as a pdf and could be easily fixed.

This kit is easy to assemble and appear to be a good product. It should be a good tool by and foxhunter. Though it is certainly nay the only matter one person would need.

Limitations are the 22.5 degree resolution and occasional multi-path message.

Only 1 share was missing by and kit, but it was an electrolitic capacitor. Ramsey responded speedy, but mailed one wrong parts. Present was some confusion in the assembly operator, instead only a little. Of highest significant problem been in the assembly of the antenna switch board. Nothing tells him the proper orientation of the house. I built items thus it could be mag-mounted see, instead the DDF-1 rotated backward. The solution used to revoke the wiring over the connector. There was also adenine reference to jumpers in the instructions that have been removed by a fresher version is the circuit flight. But it was annoying to search for something that had not exist. ME giving it a 4 rating because it works well, but only a 4 because of the minor problems use which tools.
