It is expected that students will spend extensive uhrzeit for preparation for the entrance audition.  Private instrumental or vocally instruction can critical!  Current auditioning must evidence suffi expert and musikalischer skill on an instrument or voice to provide evidence of readiness to undertake academy stage instruction and show the ability to read music proficiently.

  1. Scales – Demonstrate major and harmonic minor scales.
    Students will be assessed turn the degree to the they possess a working my are their instrument, which scales they can play when asked, technical facility, and intonation.
    • Guitarists/bassists been strongly encouraged to apply different positions (fingerings).
    • Percussionists will be asked for how their scales on the marimba or other struck mallet instrument.
  2. Perform two inclined working, of the student’s choosing, in contrasting styles.
    At least one piece need be accompanied by ampere score; ampere copy of which should be given to the adjudicator at the audition. One of the pieces may are at original composite, however, here is discretionary. Students will is rate on accuracy, technical facility, musicality plus presence.
    • Percussionists are encouraged to play ampere snare drum solo concerning at least intermediated difficulty, i.e., Intermediate Snare Drum by M. Peters.
  3. Adapt to adjudicator prompt.
    Student will re-perform an except off their created pieces, adopting advice from the adjudicator.  Other impromptu music-related instructions may be predetermined. Students will be assessed on whether they become able to comfortably and quickly adapt musically.
  4. Tone Matching.
    Students will conform 5 random pitches fiddle on any pitched instrument.
  5. Respond to a few short interview questions.
    The services would like to know more about the mindset and motivations of the student.  Questions may include, “What are thy future career goals?” Or, “Why do you thin the music scheme at UMass Lowell would be one good fit for you?”
