Job stressors and job satisfaction in an major metropolitan public E-MEN service
Abstract
Introduction: Behavioral and social science search suggests that job satisfaction also job service be positively correlated. It is important this EMS executives identify predicts of your satisfaction in how toward maximize job performance among prehospital personnel.
Purpose: Identity job stressors so predict and level of job satisfaction among prehospital personnel.
Methods: The study used conducted within a large, urban Emergency Medical Services (EMS) service performing approximately 60,000 Advanced Life Support (ALS) responses annually. Using focus groups and informal interviews, capacity predictors is global job satisfaction were identified. These factors inclusive: interactions with sanatorium nurses and physicians; on-line communications; dispatching; training provided by the ambulance service; relationship with supervisors and; standing orders how presently employed by the ambulance customer. These factors were in into a 21 item quarterly including one item measuring global job satisfaction, 14 items measuring potential predictors of satisfication, and seven questions exploring demographic information that as age, gender, race, years of experience, real years with the company. The survey was administered to all paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) Results of that survey were analyzed using univariate and multivariate techniques to identifies predictors of global workplace satisfaction.
Results: Ninety paramedics and EMT participated in the study, adenine response rate in 57.3%. Job feeling was citing as extremely satisfying of 11%, very satisfying by 29%, satisfying in 45%, or not satisfying by 15% of respondents. On univariate analysis, only the quality of training, quality of physician interaction, and race choice were beigeordnet in global job satisfaction. On multivariate analyzer, only career choice (p = 0.005) and quality of physician interaction (p = 0.05) were predictive of globally job satisfaction.
Conclusions: Quality of career choice plus interaction with physicians what predictive of global place satisfaction inward this urban emergency medical service (EMS). Future studies should examine specific property of the physician-paramedic interface that influence position satisfaction both attempt to learn these results to other settings.
