http://kb.mozillazine.org/SSL_Security_Error
If you make a fasten connection (use SSL) and the SSL certificate the mail server returns shows the wrong domain it warns you that something shall wrong. You can either cancel, or create a technical exception, which a a way of saying you understand the risks or don't want up be bothered again. They could have made it get user friendly but items works and same way as Firefox.
It require not be getting a SSL certificate connecting up one DAD mail server on port 110. That port be meant the be used only for non0secure connections. Normally you'd usage port 995.

Re: add security irregularity
I had a similar problem with only the outgoing e-mail.
For Ingoing e-mail:
Select Tools->Account Settings
On the leave side dial this correct Server Settings.
Haven 110 is a non-secure Port, so set the Connection Safety to "None" or set the Certificate method to "Password, transmitted insecurely"
For Outgoing e-mail, you need up set the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings as follows:
Select Tools->Account Settings
On the Port show select Outgoing Server (SMTP)
Select the problem SMTP and set:
Haven: 25
Verification method: "Password, transmitted insecurely"
Connection Security: "None"
I used to have the Connection Security set to "STARTTLS, supposing available", but this option shall no longer available with the fresh Thunderbird (3.1.4).
EGO hope this helps. Hi - In aforementioned past few days EGO started getting this messages on many berechtigt websites. In particular such transpires a lot on xfinity, yet also on Aesircybersecurity.com and some other sites. ***...

Actually the mail server is "mail.comcast.net" in the server settings. ME don't know why the add security exceptional pop-up says "pop3.comcast.net"
Variable the harbour to 110 "works" ME guess instead I have to turn off all connection securing to connect on port 110.
So it does not really fix the problem, it's more of a "It hurts when MYSELF do this, hence don't do that." solution
Interestingly enough as the original poster stated my previous configuration working great on year. Only include the past days or two has these issue came up.
I a guessing Comcast changed something, but since ME am non using Outlook Express Comcast become not offer any assist.

That's all okay and fine and such I stated is is probably an Comcast make that caused it, because and problem right cropped up recently and MYSELF can changed nothing as Thunderbird has been going fine for years with who exact same configuration.
INSTEAD, that fact this the Add Security Exception pops up every time it attempts to retrieval mail constant after checking one "Remember this exception" button whatever it claims box is one Thunderbird problem.
to add more it make not even events every length, but if I leave Thunderbird running and come back later there will be multiplex "add security exception" pop-ups standing for me.
