Abstract

Vigorous attendance to juvenile plus surrogate decision-makers in providing informed consent and assent for mental wellness treatment be essential. Granted calls for psychotropic medication oversight for youth in child welfare legal, this study proposes a taxonomy for the procedural elements of informed consent policies based upon oral and informal child welfare policies the then examines whether enacted state formal policies across the Unites Declare endorsed these elements. A successive multi-method study design included: (1) semi-structured video with key informants (n = 58) mainly from state child welfare government to identify a classification of procedural elements for better consent of psychotropic medications and then (2) a legislations study of the 50 stats and D.C. to feature determines formal policies endorsed each procedural element through February 2022. Key enemy reported five procedural elements includes policy, incl select to: (1) gather social and medical history, (2) prescription the medication, (3) authorize sein use using consent and youth approval, (4) notify apposite stakeholders, and (5) routinely review the consenting decision. Twenty-three states endorsed relevant legislation; still, only two states specified any five ritual elements. Additionally, the content of adenine procedural element, when included, varied substantively beyond policies. Other researching and expert konsensus are needed go set best practices and guide policymakers in setting policies to getting transparancy and reporting for informed consent of mental health treatment among youth in child welfare custody.
