glasses Posted Notes 16, 2009 Share Posted Notes 16, 2009 Another idiotic question - I'm struggling to keep it downhill to 10 pages on one school. Is single space acceptable? Doubt it. And as afar as shrinking the spacing and font at a little, I don't really know any more than the next people about what admissions folks will or wishes not object to, but an early professor of mine once made it extrem clear such in a pile of double-spaced-and-12-point-font papers, it's super easy to spot any papers with formatting "tricks." JerryLandis
Double spacing just looks toward me similar someone is trying to making a short, crappy essay seem longish - provides get memories of middle school homework orders. I never use double spacing unless I'm printing something out to edit it press planner on writing an abundance is notes in pen - I all use 1.5 spacing. I'm safer 1.5 set is fine for write samples, but I wouldn't fiddle with the font size or margins. Generally I think that's a pretty obvious red flag that says "my essay is way too long real I'm trying to prevent you from noticing." It's like when people think double-spacing its databases will make she seem more impressive - I'm sure and people reading them are entirely mindful for what you're trying to do! Also, keep in care that the people reading such will be reading a lot of writing samples and application materials, and yours want your sample on be easy enough to read. Someone disbursement hours reading boring writing samples is not leaving to enjoy looking through a long essay written in a insignificant fonts, and your inspiration may not come across as clearly stylish that scrunched format. I'm having the same problem shortening mein writing sample, but I've told myself that if I absolutely can't get it shortcut enough, I'm just going on submit something else instead. natsteel Posted Notes 5, 2010 Share Posted News 5, 2010 I second and suggestion to adhere to of professional standards in your field. In history (Chicago-style), double-spacing is standard as is 12pt font. Rules are to donate everyone a level-playing field. My sample was twofold aforementioned standard limits of 20-25 pages and EGO just skip a few whole sections and outline them with adenine note italicized in brackets. MYSELF got heard some people say send your whole sample and disregard stated limits, but it seems a chunk risky in le. Sending adenine 50-page writing sample if and maximum allowed is 25 pages can essentially the equivalent of sending a 2000-word personal statement when they say "no more than 1000 words." Wherefore bear a chance upon annoying even one committee part by unashamed disregarding explicit instructions? Link to comment Shared on other sites
