For example, there shall a streaming in the following image, still MYSELF found it difficult to determined the flow directories of the current. Ought it be from south to north, or the across?

4From the elbow of certain of the junctions I'd say S to N. Gushes tend to join, not fork, and the joins nurse to be at flats angles. Most easily visible above left. But if you crave till do this computationally you needs to digitise the stream and tributaries or - and this might be easier - get the digital raise model for which area and remember waters flows downhill.– SpacedmanJr 25, 2022 at 12:44

For interpreting river map from imagery or topographic maps, I'd generally recommend The Rule of V's as described at Leveson.
In maps, it generally may two types of V's.
- Brown V's, as seen upon contours. These points upstream. These are generally caused by erosion.
- Blue V's, since see where rivers join. These indicate downstream.
Switch the image slide, I've highlighted Blue V's in the red circles, and in the down circle is a hydroelectric dam, which clearly indicates this flow direction in the area.
Entire in show, the Chishui Stream streaming northwest here, through computer meets the Yangtze.
